Preschool Scholarship Application & Guidelines
The Preschool Scholarship Fund was created to assist families, in financial need, in providing their children with a structured Preschool experience prior to entering Kindergarten the following school year. Partial Scholarships may be awarded up to but not exceeding $1,500 depending on financial need and the availability of scholarship funds to help families offset tuition costs.
To Qualify for a Scholarship:
- You must reside in either Chester, Deep River, or Essex, CT.
- You must be willing to provide evidence, if asked, of financial need.
- Your child must be age eligible to enter kindergarten the following school year.
Priority for Scholarships will be provided for children who have not previously had a preschool experience. This is a one time grant per child.
If granted a scholarship, understand that the preschool will be located in Essex, Deep River or Chester, Ct. Whenever possible, we will honor your preschool of choice request.

Guidelines for Awarding & Distributing Preschool Scholarships
Scholarship applicants must be residents of the Connecticut Tri Town Region: Chester, Deep River, or Essex.
The Scholarship committee maintains a strict non-discriminatory policy when considering and awarding scholarships.
Any child meeting the Council’s Criteria residing in Connecticut Regional School District 4 shall be eligible to apply for a scholarship regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, creed or sexual orientation of the child or the child’s parents.
Applicants must be seeking a scholarship to attend preschool the year before they will be entering Kindergarten.
Partial Scholarships will be awarded to those families for whom payment of Preschool tuition would be a financial hardship. The balance of Preschool tuition will be the responsibility of the child’s family. Scholarship funds are paid directly to the Preschool.
Scholarships may be awarded to families who are experiencing difficulties as a result of extraneous events or circumstances.
In the event that the child attends a full day program, the scholarship may be applied to the preschool portion of the day. The family is responsible for the cost of the extended day.
Transportation to and from the receiving Preschool program is the responsibility of the family. Failure to attend regularly may result in termination of the scholarship and reallocation of the residual scholarship to another qualifying child.
The amount of the scholarship may be up to, but may not exceed $1,500. Money awarded may vary depending upon financial need, availability of scholarship funding, availability of donated slots and the number of qualifying applicants.
Scholarships are intended to ensure that the child has a structured preschool experience prior to entering Kindergarten. Research supports the importance of this learning experience for future success in kindergarten as well as later grades.
